Teaching

Teaching is one of my great joys!

As a professor at Indiana University, I have been fortunate to teach both undergraduate and graduate students in courses focused on sexual and reproductive health, human sexuality, and research methods.

In addition, I mentor undergraduate and graduate students in their development of research skills. I’m proud to have worked with several colleagues to co-develop the IU School of Public Health’s Graduate Certificate in Sexual and Reproductive Health (for more information, click here) and I’m skilled at teaching both small seminars and large lectures.

For more than a decade, I’ve been certified as a sexuality educator through the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT).

Beyond the college classroom, I’ve been honored to be invited to teach about sexual health and wellbeing for colleges and universities throughout the United States, public and private high schools, medical students, Greek organizations, cancer survivors, professional sports teams, corporations, college athletic departments, and non-profit organizations.

I’ve lectured on sexuality topics in numerous countries across six continents.

As much as I love conducting research, I also care deeply about getting fact-based information about sexual and reproductive health to those who need it – what some people call “knowledge translation” or “public engagement in science.”

Examples of my efforts to share research-based information more widely with the public includes having published bestselling books about sexuality, served as a co-producer on the documentary film Hot Girls Wanted, provided fact-based information through various media (e.g., newspapers, magazines, television shows, podcasts, and radio), and shared my research with authors of popular books such as Peggy Orenstein’s Girls and Sex and Emma Brown’s To Raise a Boy.
